Art Programs in the South Suburban Area
There are many community organizations that offer arts programs to young people. Please click on the links below for scheduling, locations, prices and enrollment criteria. These organizations are available to all community members and not affiliated with nor endorsed by the Southwest Co-Op.
The Bridge Teen Center

The Bridge Teen Center is an innovative grassroots nonprofit community center that was designed around the interests and needs of teens in the suburbs. We are located in Orland Park and serve teens and families from all over the Chicago Southland and Northwest Indiana area. Our mission is to provide free programs during after-school and unsupervised hours where students can develop mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually in a safe environment. The Bridge Teen Center is a place for students not just to be, but to become.

SSSRA is therapeutic recreation program that is an extension of eight park districts and three recreation and parks departments. It is organized to provide individuals with disabilities or special needs, the opportunity to be involved in year-round recreation.
Spotlight Youth Theater

Theater classes for ages 5-18 years old are now being taken online at Spotlight.org Classes such as Project Dance, Musical Theater, Voice 2 and more. No theater experience is required. The showcase for these classes will be on Jan. 28th.

Project Onward is dedicated to supporting the career development of artists with mental and developmental disabilities. Operating as both a studio and gallery, Project Onward supports the work of visual artists who have exceptional talents but face challenges ranging from autism to mental illness.

Education Statement: Every program and every exhibit at the Children's Museum is created with the Common Core standards (formerly the Illinois Learning Standards) at their core. These are the same standards that the Illinois Board of Education requires local school districts to use when developing local curriculum. This enables the Children's Museum to be a true extension of hands on learning.

Art a la Carte is a community-based art studio that encourages others to explore their creative sides and develop a relationship with art. We offer painting and art parties, classes, special events and workshops that can be used to create art in a variety of styles, all while having fun and enjoying the company of others. Supplies, instructions and guidance are provided; pricing is inclusive.
The “Art World” can be a very intimidating and exclusive place. But it doesn’t have to be. At Art a la Carte, we want our guests to define and participate in art on their own terms.

In our fast-paced, technological world, students need to unplug and develop their problem solving and visual thinking skills. Visual arts promotes critical thinking skills and concentration, which benefit all areas of learning.

The Painted Turtle

An art studio in Tinley Park offers a variety of programs and services for adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities.
The Painted Turtle, which will be an extension of the not-for-profit organization CTF Illinois, is located on the corner of 175th Street and Oak Park Avenue in downtown Tinley Park in the site that formerly housed the Garden Gallery and Studio.
Merchant St. Art Gallery is a non-profit exhibition space and art studio dedicated to the creative and professional development of artists on the autism spectrum.
We provide the resources, training, and community support needed for our artists to realize their creative potential and make great work.
